Celebrating our third birthday and world photography day 2020

August 20, 2020 Dr. Santosh Kumar Mahalik

August 19 is celebrated as World Photography Day, a day to pay homage to the history of photography, celebrate the present and leave a positive trail for the future. Utkala Photography Club was founded on 19th August 2017 on the eve of World Photography Day by Mr. Srikrishna Das to educate and encourage people for photography in Odisha. Three years have been passed, some friends have left and far more have joined us since then. In these three years’ journey, we have not confined us to photography only. We have broadened our vision and started participating in and promoting wildlife and ecology conservation and rescue. This year, we registered ourselves as “Utkala Photography Foundation Trust” with the goal of Wildlife Conservation, Rescue & Photography.

This year on our 3rd birth anniversary, we launched our new logo which depicts our vision. With conservation as our main motto, we decide to have a PLANTATION DRIVE on our birthday. Despite low pressure and heavy raining, few of our fellow UPCIANs and the core team gathered at Village, Kusumati in Jatani area, in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. We planted various fruiting trees such as different verities of Mangoes, Jamun, Guava, Oou, etc. We had our formal ceremonial cake cutting session followed by a delicious breakfast prepared by the family of one of our youngest UPCian Biswaranjan Mishra. We had our long-pending meeting and various decision making.

Later in the day, we had a local birding and bird photography session, where participants were taught regarding shooting birds in rain, the use of High ISO & various use of slow shutter speed. Lastly, all of us enjoyed the self-prepared lunch by our members at nearby temple premises.

Also, we had organized a photography competition on the theme “Nature & Wildlife” which started on 10th August on the occasion of “World Photography Day 2020”. Almost 300 participants had sent us their images for the completion from which 5 winners were declared on 19th August which was judged by Mr. Tejas Soni, Canon India Mentor. You can view the winner’s result here at aw8!

We are looking forward to expanding our community with the singular vision of wildlife conservation and Photography. Join us for exciting photography tours, learning conservation & rescue. Be a member now!

Best Wishes!
